The color wheel is all you need……

All the big names in the fashion industry and all the big brands don’t just come up with color combinations of clothes, they do their research with due diligence and then decide on what color palettes should be used for their collection. The color wheel was invented by Isaac Newton. The wheel has been divided into various categories and applied anything that deals with colors.

  • Primary Colors

Primary colors are the basic colors and it would not be wrong to say that all the other colors are obtained by mixing 2 or more primary colors. These colors include red, yellow and blue.

  • Secondary colors

These are obtained by mixing two or more primary colors. For example red and yellow gives orange, red and blue gives purple and so on.

  • Tertiary colors

These colors are derived by mixing primary and secondary colors. Colors like corals, peaches, beiges are obtained.

Principles for matching colors?

The best way of matching clothes is to pick colors which goes in harmony. This is the first and basic step even in designing of clothes. Two or more colors which does not go in harmony will never make a good color combination.

  1. Complementary

Yellow, green, red and violet are complementary colors and they goes well together. Most of the brands use these colors to design their spring and summer collection. Because the complementary color wheel is vibrant and fresh and is perfect for mid-summer season.

  1. Analogous

Combining or wearing 2 or more continuous colors on the color wheel is called analogous color matching. So, if you have picked a striking color like orange and you do not know how to color match your orange sweater with any other color, then pick any color on either side of color on the color wheel.

  1. Triadic

The combination of colors which are located at a far distance from each other make triadic color matching. You can always pick those colors which are not much striking rather they are muted colors.
